Treyarch has released the official name for the upcoming Call of Duty 5, along with the first details about the game. The game will be called 'Call of Duty: World at War' and the game will be set in the Pacific theater of World War II. It was also confirmed that the game will include a co-op mode for the campaign portion of the game, making it the first game in the series to do so. As for the online multiplayer portion, vehicles have been confirmed and there will now be squad-based elements.
The game will be coming out on PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. The Wii version will have a different team behind it. The game has also been re-confirmed to be running on the Call of Duty 4 engine.
Apparently Treyarch is going for a more "gritty" approach with the game. Here is a quote talking about the beginning of the game:
"The opening scene of the first level we are shown is a Japanese commander stubbing a cigarette out in the eye of a prisoner before slitting his throat - the blood splatters and dribbles down the side of the tent you are being held in. He turns towards you to deal out the same treatment but help arrives just in time. Cue a daring level-long escape."
More information about Call of Duty 5 will be revealed later this month, so check back.

The extra grittiness sounds awesome.
