In-Game XMB coming with firmware 2.40 this summer

PS3 XMBSCE UK boss Ray Maguire has confirmed in an interview that In-Game XMB (or in-game communication as he refers to it) is headed to the PS3 this summer. It will come as a part of the 2.40 update. Now, since he says 'communication' rather than 'XMB' I'm guessing it will only be in-game messaging/friends list access to start out with. In-game music would be nice, but I'm not complaining.

“Our momentum will continue with the introduction of in-game communication in the summer, firmware update 2.4 and the strongest line-up of games through our third party partners and our own studios. I’d personally like to thank our trade and business partners for helping us on the start of the PS3 journey.”

Sounds promising. But I do really want in game music. That would be very cool.

Man, finally. This is one thing I'm going to have to agree with you on, 360_dude. We should've had this at launch.
