Grand Theft Auto 4 - No split-screen multiplayer

Among all the GTA 4 multiplayer revelations, many people are speculating on whether it will also feature an offline split-screen mode. Accoring to Stephen Totilo of the MTV Multiplayer blog, the answer is no. He says he learned of this from Rockstar Games itself as he played a Devkit version of the game via a local network in the developer's New York City office. There's no official reason why, but Stephen goes on to speculate that it could be because of technical limitations. It's possible that GTA IV is just too much to handle via split-screen. He does point out that this is probably not that big of a deal anymore, because we now have online multiplayer.

Just a reminder, Grand Theft Auto 4 has gone gold, and will be coming out on April 29.

this whole "the hardware can't support split screen" idea is bullshit. It's not like we're doubling the scope of the game, we're just adding another player, another camera, and another physics-enabled rag-doll when his ass gets hit by a helicopter blade. It's not like it doesn't matter because of online play, some of our friends don't have $300 to blow on a 360, $60 to blow on a game, and another $15 a month for live. In fact, the ridiculous price is probably why they don't allow split screen, forcing us to spend $240 to play multiplayer instead of the $60 dollars it would require otherwise. I wouldn't even be complaining all that much if the physics engine wasn't shit and the game looks like there's a used coffee filter on the camera lens.

I've played a lot of games that are split screen so the dumbass people at rockstar have no fucking excuse for not having the feature. This game sucks shit me and my friend were so bored cause we though that there would be at least SOME kind of multiplayer like in san andreas. Then we wouldn't be complaining about how they should have taken more time developing the game.

You're a dumbass. GTAIV is the flagship starter for the new physics engine, graphics engine, etc. They leave room on which to expand, the same way they expanded on 3 with san andreas and vice city. You can be damn sure GTA will keep getting better.

BTW everyone that says the physics engine sucks, you suck. It's raw. AND the visuals are sick. Everything about the game is gnar.

I had purchased a 360 Elite and I was trilled as ****, It was great testing out Mass Effect and those other 360 only games but after 2 weeks of owning this brand new system (cleaned and
taken care of) It fucked on me one dumb ring of red light) I was pissed!! I sent it to Microsoft for repairs an guess what? THEY COULDNT FIX IT SO THEY GAVE ME A NEW CONSOLE WTF?? Now I was done with the xbox i packaged it back up an took it to a game shop got a ps3. I know 360 gots some hot features like listening to music as you play and stuff. But...damn free online thats one point in my book! ANd wait better graphics?? I checked that rumor out and it was true on an HD TV the particles are out of this world guys. Not one error on my machine runs smoothly Im so impressed, YET I wont say its better then a 360 cause there both great, they got there ons and offs.
