A few new details were released today about Grand Theft Auto 4's multiplayer mode. Previously we reported on some of the basic features and online modes. Today it was reported that each mode will be fully customizable, allowing you to change the number of players, weapon types, number of police and pedestrians, and more.
The online gameplay is split into two types, ranked and unranked. The reward for the ranked gameplay will be cash. The amount of cash a player has will determine their rank. read more »

As we all know, the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto 4 will be getting exclusive downloadable content sometime after the game's release. As of now though, nothing has been announced for the PS3. Well an article in the latest version of PlayStation World Magazine states that the PS3 will indeed be getting downloadable content. This information comes straight from GTA 4's senior developer, Jeronimo Barrera. No details were given, unfortunately, but that alone is still good news. read more »

Among all the GTA 4 multiplayer revelations, many people are speculating on whether it will also feature an offline split-screen mode. Accoring to Stephen Totilo of the MTV Multiplayer blog, the answer is no. He says he learned of this from Rockstar Games itself as he played a Devkit version of the game via a local network in the developer's New York City office. There's no official reason why, but Stephen goes on to speculate that it could be because of technical limitations. It's possible that GTA IV is just too much to handle via split-screen. He does point out that this is probably not that big of a deal anymore, because we now have online multiplayer. read more »

Update #2: April 25 - A while back we posted this article (which was found to be completely fake) claiming that the Xbox 360 version was superior to the PS3 version. You can read that below, if you'd like. Well, today we have the official verdict on which version is really better, straight from IGN's review of the game.
"Past GTA titles have had mild-to-serious framerate issues and technical glitches, because the games were trying to do far more than the PlayStation 2 could handle. While GTA IV is pushing the PS3 and 360 to the limit, it also runs amazingly well. Sure, there are framerate hitches here and there and (particularly on 360) there is some texture pop-in, but it actually runs better than I expected." read more »

We've had a lot of fun over the past year and a half but lately Dillon and I have felt like we needed to do something a bit different. We've started a new site, which still focuses on video game reviews, however we're going to simplify the process a little and make everything a bit more personal. All reviews will now be in the form of video, which will allow us to focus on getting quality content up much more often. Our first review is up and we should have quite a bit more rolling in soon. We'll be putting up more reviews, podcasts and blogs whenever we can.
We'd like to thank everyone that has been with us since the beginning and we hope you'll become a part of the new site.
We could really use your help getting started, so be sure to spread the word. Also be sure to follow us on Twitter and add us on Facebook & MySpace.

Several gamers who have picked up Grand Theft Auto 4 today have unfortunately been receiving severe freezing issues with the game. Supposedly the game will freeze immediately after the opening cutscene, but some have been lucky enough to play for 5 minutes or so. Earlier today, QJ.net falsely reported that the problem is exclusive to the PS3 version of the game, however both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 forums have had more than one thread dedicated to the issue. It's safe to say that the issue is in the game itself. Personally, we haven't had any problems with either of them, but there have certainly been enough people that have to call this a serious problem. Rockstar has been getting calls about this all morning and just about everyone has been given the same response: "We're working on it". read more »

The latest entry into the Wolfenstein series was announced recently at QuakeCon 08. According to id Software and Raven Software, however, this will be an entirely new game aimed at a new audience and will therefore be simply titled 'Wolfenstein'.
Wolfenstein will take place immediately after the events of 2001's Return to Castle Wolfenstein and you will once again take the role of American soldier Joseph "BJ" Blazkowickz as he battles his way through Nazis and demons during WWII.

Rockstar has once again updated the official Grand Theft Auto 4 site, and this time the highlight is the multiplayer. They've released some new details and screenshots on seven of the different game modes.
Team Deathmatch (2-8 Teams)
Players work as a team to rub out other teams for money-and the crew with the most cash at the end of the round wins. Take the other crew down. Remember to loot the cash dropped by deceased players. That's the way to get ahead. read more »

Many PlayStation Eye owners (such as myself) may have been a bit disappointed when trying to plug the PS Eye into a PC, hoping to use it as a webcam. If you plug it in you'll find that the PC recognizes it just fine, but it doesn't exactly function how it's supposed to. Well, what's missing here? Drivers of course. Fortunately the team behind the drivers has released them today. Currently they're still under development but apparently it will capture at a solid 60fps with a resolution of 640 x 480, so it's quite usable at this point it would seem. What you'll need is the driver set and the PS3EyeTest which you can get from the source link below.

"A NetBlender SDK will soon allow Apple's iPhone to communicate with the PlayStation 3 console, CTO Denny Breitenfeld reveals to Gizmodo today. The new connectivity will see the the iPhone acting as a PS3 remote control, and will also introduce new touch features that might be integrated into PS3 movies (via Blu-ray), games and applications.
The CTO said the new SDK "will allow studios, independent movie companies to enable BD Touch features. These features send data in two directions from the Disc to the iPhone and vice versa. Video, audio, text, and player commands can be sent. So right now it seems everyone likes the ‘remote control’ idea. However the player can control the iPhone as well." read more »

A new batch of screenshots for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Wii version) has just arrived. The biggest news here is that one of them is a shot of the character selection screen. Not too long ago, LucasArts revealed that Darth Vader would be playable in the game. Now it appears that Count Dooku, Darth Maul, Anakin Skywalker, Luke Skywalker, and many others are also in the game. One thing that seems a little odd is that Yoda (who was also confirmed to be in the game) is missing. That leads us to believe that he might be a hidden/unlockable character. If that's the case, he may not be the only one. Anyway, check out the screenshots: read more »

Several months ago, SCE UK boss Ray Maguire confirmed that "In-Game Communication" would be coming with firmware 2.40 this summer, claiming this:
“Our momentum will continue with the introduction of in-game communication in the summer, firmware update 2.4 and the strongest line-up of games through our third party partners and our own studios. I’d personally like to thank our trade and business partners for helping us on the start of the PS3 journey.”
Then there was the story about the upcoming PixelJunk Eden's support for the 'Trophy' feature, which will also supposedly be coming with firmware 2.40. read more »

New Guitar Hero 4 details have arrived in the June edition of Game Informer magazine. First off, Guitar Hero 4 will be coming on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, and PS2. All versions are said to have the same features, although the Wii and PS2 versions will obviously be a bit toned down. It has also been restated that Guitar Hero 4 will indeed feature other instruments, such as drums, bass and vocals. You will be able to customize the sound of your instrument and create your own rocker. read more »

Not too long ago rumors began circulating that the highly anticipated 'Aliens: Colonial Marines' has been put on hold indefinitely (canceled...), and Gearbox President, Randy Pitchford, quickly spoke up against such rumors. Well, in case you needed any further assurance, the game has now been given an official release date of Q1 2009. Nothing more specific than that, unfortunately, but that alone is great news.
