Rockstar on GTA 4 freezing: It's not us, it's your PS3

RockstarSince GTA IV released a little over a week ago, gamers (particularly on the PS3) have been experiencing freezing issues with the game. Several temporary solutions were discovered, such as delete the game data, disconnect from PSN, etc. however none were long-term solutions. Fortunately for many, Rockstar released a patch that fixed the issue for quite a few people. Unfortunately for some, the problem still lingers. For those people, Rockstar has released an official statement claiming that it's not a problem with the game, and rather a problem with their consoles.

"Thank you for your patience while we continue to work to resolve this hardware-related issue. We have provided your information to Sony, and they will be contacting you directly to assist in the repair and/or replacement of your PlayStation 3 console."

"Once again, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has causes. Please provide us with your mailing address and shirt size at your earliest convenience, as we would like to send you something as a token of appreciation for your patience with this matter."

Free shirts are cool, but being able to play the game you just spent $60 on would be even cooler. To be honest, I don't see how this could possibly be a PS3-related issue. Maybe it is, but it's still Rockstar's problem. If that many gamers can have a problem with just this game, and not a single problem with others, it's obviously not a console-related problem. I guess it's just easier for Rockstar to have gamers replace their PS3s than it is for them to just fix their game.

i had the same issue with the 80 gig. finally my ps3 stopped reading all media disks. i called sony, they sent me a box to mail out my ps3 back to them for repair. the entire process from the time i called them to getting my ps3 back was about 3 weeks. my gta 4 game still freezes while trying to access multiplayer, i have to quit the game and when i do, it seems to reset/reboot my ps3. i think my laser is going to go out soon again. if i quit my game shouldn't it just go back to the menu instead of restarting my system?

TreeGrl I've got the same problem, but sometimes I manage to connect (very rarely though), I play a lot of games online and so far this one is the only one causing trouble... I just wish they've solved it already cause I can't play altogether with my friends :(

Rockstar just sent me an email informing me that I needed to contact Sony.
So I call Sony and they are sending me a box so I can exchange my 60 gig for a 60 gig that does not have the hardware incompatibility issue.

I have the same problem as TreeGrl, cannot connect with my friends, or join their games in GTA 4. I can multiplay with them in Motostorm, or even the new Haze Demo, so I highly doubt it's a PS3 console issue! YJ

Honestly I had the problem with the 80GB model, but it stopped a little while ago.

I persoanlly have not had an issue with the game freezing up ! Which I heard was the issue with the 60GB model which I have but I do have problems connecting online ? I'm ok if I am hosting a match but I can't connect to any of my online friends , they can't connect to me ? I get messages such as , "Game no longer exist" , or "you lost connection to 2 or more players" ??? Whats really going on ? I don't see this as a PSN problem , consisdering I play with everyone on other games such as COD4, R6V2 on PSN with no problems ? I don't see this as a PS3 problem maybe a GTA4 ROCKSTAR "glitch of some kind" ... I know it will be resolved in time but the online to GTA4 is so damn fun and I want it NOW!!! happy gaming , TreeGrl
