Rumor: PS3 Firmware 2.40 details - In-Game XMB, Trophies + more

Several months ago, SCE UK boss Ray Maguire confirmed that "In-Game Communication" would be coming with firmware 2.40 this summer, claiming this:

“Our momentum will continue with the introduction of in-game communication in the summer, firmware update 2.4 and the strongest line-up of games through our third party partners and our own studios. I’d personally like to thank our trade and business partners for helping us on the start of the PS3 journey.”

Then there was the story about the upcoming PixelJunk Eden's support for the 'Trophy' feature, which will also supposedly be coming with firmware 2.40.

According to an 'insider', the firmware will also be laying the groundwork for Sony's upcoming video/movie download service. Here is the full list, as stated by said 'insider':

Access your XMB chat features from any game.
2D trophies from the XMB where 70% of current titles will support them straight away
Video Coding and groundwork for the Movie Store (Out Sept)

The 'insider' also mentioned that this firmware would be released before Metal Gear Solid 4 arrives on June 12. Keep in mind though, until an actual Sony representative confirms this, it's only a rumor.

will the in-game XMB work for every title you play?

it will be on 70% of the games that are out at the moment so 30% games that are out now will not have throphies but im guessing all the big titles we had will have them e.g:GTAIV, Resistance fall of man

Man i really beleive that this is comming out. But it may be a "RUMOR", so don't get your hopes up too high folks. As you can see sony has been delaying sh!7 left and right, and if this is'nt true i'm giving up on anything sony says, and i'm just going to wait for it to actually show in the PS store or update for the truth. Leave it to sony, when they say "comming soon!" that means in 2 and a half years.

Look i have has my PS3 for a year.. an i nearli bought an XBOX aswell.. buht i figured the onli reason i wanted it was for the multiplayer on halo.. 4 players on the one system wud go good in my family of 4 teenagers.. buht we dint get it.. we just brought PS3 games.. and i dont regret it.. my friend has an XBOX and he is kikin himself bcoz he dint wait for the PS3.. he covers his ears wen i talk about the PS3.. haha

they need to make it where you can show the clock on the XMB screen and when you press ps button

I agree the clock is a huge issue for me. I used to watch dvd's on my ps3 all the time when I first got it but then switched back to my 360 due to the easy fact I could find out what time it was, cause my only clocks in my room are my computer which is to far away to see and my 360.

lol clock most people have a clock near them i knoe i have like 5. phone comp tv alarm and a wall 1.
